WHAT IS CCP?

College Career Pathways (CCP) at Capital Community College provides high school students with opportunities to complete college-level coursework and earn college credits while pursuing their high school diploma. High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors can earn college credits in a specific career field leading to an associate degree or post-secondary certification. The College Career Pathways program is established with the secondary school when career courses and instructors are identified and approved. Once the partnership is in place, students may choose career and technical courses in fields of study such as:

  • Accounting
  • Biotechnology
  • Computer Information Systems
  • Computer Networking
  • Construction Management
  • Management

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

The benefits of participating in the CCP program are numerous. Students gain confidence in their ability to successfully complete a college level course, they learn the importance of time management and accountability, and they are afforded the opportunity to be a participate in on campus activities, such as, Career Fairs, Panel Discussions with professionals in various careers and meet and greets with professors in academic disciplines they might be interested in pursuing. Additionally, students have access to the College Development and Placement Center, as well as the College Success Center for tutorial services, the Counseling Center for college support, and the CCC Library. By participating in the CCP program, students are investing in their future by considering a post-secondary education in one of the 60+ associate degrees and certificates offered at CCC. As a CCP student, students are able to earn up to 15 free college credits – a free semester of college credits! In doing so, high school students graduate high school with a clear set of goals having already begun the college process.

College Career Pathways FAQ’s

1. Why enroll in the College Career Pathways program?

Students who enroll in this program may earn up to 15 FREE Capital Community College credits. This is the equivalent to a full semester in college, tuition free! Enrolling in the CCP program will allow you to explore different career possibilities while providing confidence that you DO have the ability be a college student! Students may only earn 9 credits in one given year.

2. When can I enroll in the CCP program?

Students may enroll in their 10th, 11th, or 12th grade year.

3. How do I enroll in the CCP program?

To enroll in the CCP program you must speak with your high school counselor or the instructor teaching the CCP course at your high school.

4. When is the enrollment form due and how should it be submitted?

The online CCP program must be completed and submitted by October 8, 2021.

5. How do I find out what courses and instructors are approved?

To inquire about courses and instructors check with your high school counselor or contact the Coordinator of the College Career Pathways program, Karen Binkhorst at [email protected] or (860) 906-5283.

6. What if I have already taken an approved course with the approved instructor, but I haven’t completed the enrollment form?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to earn college credit for completing that course.

7. Do I need to take all the courses that are approved at my high school?

No. We actually encourage students to only take the courses that interest them and will lead them towards a post-secondary associate degree or certification.

8. Do I need to take all the courses in the year that I enroll in the program?

No. You may enroll in the 10th grade and choose not to take a course until the 11th or 12th grade. You are actually not allowed to take more than three – 3 credit courses in one school year.

9. Do I need to complete an enrollment form every year?

Yes. The online CCP Enrollment Form will need to be completed each year you plan to take an approved CCP course with an approved instructor.

10. Is there a grade I must have in order to earn college credit?

You will receive college credit for a C or better. If you receive a C- or lower, no college credit will be awarded, and an AUDIT will appear on your transcript. An AUDIT will NOT impact future financial aid requests.

11. When do I receive my transcript?

When you enroll, you will be given an ID number that will allow you to view your transcripts. You may request an official transcript once you graduate.

All students enrolling in the College Career Pathways Program should notify their counselor and instructor about their intention to enroll in the College Career Pathways Program so that they are listed on the class roster to receive college credit upon completion.

It is essential to provide a Social Security Number when completing the enrollment form. If you do not have a Social Security Number, please complete Social Security Form and submit it with the Student Enrollment Form. If you have one, it MUST be provided it in order to enroll.
